Been a long time since I've posted here. I guess it's time to get back to business, hu?
Some big news is the addition of our 2012 chicks.
In March we got 17 new baby chicks. 3 white crested Polish, 5 buff Orphingtons, 3 silver lace Wyendottes, 3 Aracuna and 3 more turkens.
Then in April, we got 6 baby chicks. 4 New England Red, 1 more white crested Polish and 1 mottled Houdan.
And sometime in May we will be getting 12 more!
We had some predator issues at lost 3 of our laying hens one night. Wasn't exactly sure what it was so set up the wildlife camera. We discovered a FOX!
Well, can't have that attacking our chickens! We're better with lockdown and being more aware of the possiblities of loss.
Having the new additions there was no way they where going to be able to all live in the portable coop.
Let the planning begin for new living quarters.
Looking at what other's have done we deciced on the hoop design run. Ours will be a double hoop run. We will be using the portable coop in addition to a new coop and house. It's currently in building mode. It's being build from cattle fencing, chicken wire, and tree-trunk posts. (Pictures to come in the future). Steve's calling this the Taj Mahal.
The 17 from March are now old enough to be moved to their house outside. They had been in a brooder pen in the garage. They spent their first night in the new house on Sunday (4/29/12). Spending their days in the new run with more room seems to make them happy.
With all this talk of chickens maybe I need to change the name of the blog from paper to pavement to poultry!
Not to be leaving out one hobby for another, I've been planning some type of motorcycle vacation. Hoping for sometime this summer. The exact time to be determined. More on this news later.
